My story explains why I do this. My philosophy explains who I do it for.
I believe every person matters.
I believe no one should have to face life’s challenges alone.
And I believe that, no matter what you’ve been through, it’s possible to move from surviving to truly living.
For more than 15 years, I served with Essex Police, progressing to Temporary Detective Inspector and investigating some of the UK’s most serious and complex crimes, including organised crime, counter-terrorism, covert policing, child protection and domestic abuse. Later, as a Senior Lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University, I had the privilege of training more than 600 new police officers, passing on the lessons I’d learned from the front line.
Like many people in caring professions, I spent years looking after everyone else while neglecting myself. Eventually, the weight of everything I had experienced caught up with me.
In 2024, I was medically retired with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
I have lived through trauma, addiction and some of the darkest moments of my life. There were times when I questioned everything. But I also discovered something that changed me forever: our hardest experiences don’t have to define us—they can become the foundation for something meaningful. That journey became the inspiration for my memoir, LIFELINE, and the reason I founded Lifeline Coaching and Mentoring.
Today, I’m a mental health speaker, life coach, safeguarding consultant and author, helping individuals, leaders and organisations build resilience, strengthen meaningful relationships and create healthier, more compassionate cultures.
My work isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about creating safe spaces where people feel heard, understood and empowered to move forward.
Whether I’m speaking to hundreds of people, coaching one person or facilitating a peer support group, my mission is always the same:
To help people stop surviving and start living.
Because I believe prevention is better than crisis. Connection is stronger than isolation.
Hope is stronger than fear. And one conversation really can change a life.
The LIFELINE Philosophy
My story belongs to me.
The LIFELINE Philosophy belongs to everyone.
You matter.
One life. Limited time.
Live LIFE. Don’t simply survive it.
Beyond the work
Away from work, I’m happiest spending time with my wife, our two children and our two dogs. I enjoy journalling, playing guitar, wild camping and running ultramarathons—simple things that remind me how precious life is and how far hope can carry us.
I didn’t choose what happened to me.
I chose what happened next.
